UAE Police arrest driver for performing stunts in front of patrol vehicle

A man, aged 20, was being extremely irresponsible by making a lot of noise and driving his four-wheel drive vehicle dangerously close to a police car. This terrifying event transpired in Ras Al Khaimah's southern region.

Public Outcry and Police Response

The incident gained widespread attention when a video capturing the reckless behavior went viral on social media. The video showed the motorist's four-wheel drive engaging in dangerous stunts right in front of the police patrol vehicle, exhibiting a complete disregard for the law and a flagrant challenge to law enforcement.

Swift Police Action

In response to the alarming video, the Ras Al-Khaimah Traffic and Patrol Department took swift action. Under the guidance of General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al-Naeimi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, a dedicated search and investigation team was assembled. This team included experts from traffic administration and patrol, along with the management of comprehensive police stations.

Identifying the offender

The diligent team successfully tracked down the reckless driver and his vehicle. Consequently, the authorities impounded the vehicle, and the driver is currently undergoing legal procedures. He is set to be transferred to the Prosecutor General to face legal consequences for his dangerous actions.

Zero Tolerance for Disrespect

According to Colonel Dr. Mohamed Al-Bahar, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, the force will not stand for any infraction of the law, any disrespect for law enforcement, or any threat to public safety. Such behavior should be met with serious repercussions.

Strict Penalties for Reckless Driving

According to the UAE federal traffic law, reckless driving results in a fine of Dh2,000, along with 23 black points on the offender's driving record.

A reckless driving event can also lead to a 60-day impoundment of the offending vehicle. Drivers who recklessly endanger the safety of others face the same sanctions. These severe punishments also apply to other traffic offenses such as impeding traffic, running red lights, making unexpected lane changes, and driving without a license plate.

Varied Traffic Regulations by Emirate

It's essential to note that while federal traffic laws apply across the UAE, each emirate may have its own specific traffic regulations and penalties. In July 2023, Dubai implemented new traffic laws that classified reckless driving and running red lights as serious traffic offenses. Decree No. 30 of 2023 focused on traffic violations and vehicle impoundment. It imposes a Dh50,000 fine to release an impounded vehicle for reckless drivers who jeopardize their safety and the safety of others.
